REPUBLICAN BRANCH UNION OF RAILWAY TRADE UNION WORKERS OF ARMENIA

The republican branch Union of railway trade union workers of Armenia (Railway workers’ trade union) has been created at the constituent congress, taken place on August, 11th, 1991 and is the assignee of regional trade union of railway workers (Railway workers of regional trade union) the Yerevan branch of the railway. Now trade union of railway workers unites 32 primary trade-union organisations of structural subdivisions of Joint-Stock Company «South Caucasian railway».
The trade union structure includes also trade-union organisations:
- Joint-Stock Company «Yerevan section of water supply»;
- railway polyclinic;
- Gjumri railway college;
- expert centre (СЭС).
The republican branch of Union is the founder of the International Confederation of Trade unions of railwaymen and transport builders (ICTU), as well as a part of Confederation of trade unions of Armenia.
Railway workers’ trade union has 4675 members of trade union.
The higher supervising body of the Union is congress.
At the congress of the trade union, taken place on November 12 2008, chairman Hlhatyan Ashot Smbatovich was elected as the chairman of Railway workers’ trade union;
A. Hlhatyan is a member of Presidium and Council of Confederation of trade unions of Armenia, a member of Council ICTU.
The vice-president of Union Galoyan Michael Karapetovich from Confederation of trade unions of Armenia is elected a member of Council of General Confederation of Trade unions (GCTU).
At Railway workers’ trade union Presidium Council of veterans (railwaymen) of war and labour, and the youth commission are established.
RWTU is one of few branches of trade unions of Armenia where the institute of technical inspection has remained.
The objective of RWTU creation is regulation and uniting activity of the habitual trade-union organisations in structural subdivisions of Joint-Stock Company "SCR" on protection of the economic and connected with them economical, social rights and guarantees of members of trade union, for maintenance of legal guarantees of trade-union organisations activity, representation and protection of the basic interests and the rights of workers.
The important levers for achieving these targets is Collective Contracts.
On June 18 2008 for regulating social and labour relations in Joint-Stock Company “SCR" a Collective agreement for 2008-2010 is concluded.
